Story Editor

Apps Used: Adobe InDesign

The Story Editor is a text-only view of your InDesign page layout in a separate window. It allows you to edit text without layout and formatting distractions.

Sometimes your InDesign page layout is rather complex. If you want a distraction-free, text-only view of your document, the Story Editor is the way to go. All you need to do is hit ⌘-Y.

Edit in Style

You can taylor the appearance of the Story Editor to suit your taste. Hit ⌘-K to go to InDesign’s Preferences.

Power Editing

If you really want to speed through a text stying job quickly, what you can do is set a keyboard shortcut for your style sheets. Open your story editor, select text, then hit the appropriate keyboard shortcuts to apply your styles.

You can focus on the Story Editor window. Move your mouse with your keyboard’s arrow keys, then hit the desired style’s keyboard shortcut. Go back to layout view to check your work. You’ll blast through your document really quickly.
